Doniene Gorrondona is a winery located in the Bakio valley, in the Basque Country. The valley creates a steep-sloped bowl that faces the Cantabrian Sea and Hondarribi has been planted in the well-drained soils of these slopes. The vines are farmed organically and the wines are fermented using indigenous yeasts. Itziar and Andoni believe in creating wines that reflect their distinct terruño. Harvested in the first weeks of October the grapes undergo a careful first selection at the vineyard, followed by a rigorous second selection at the winery. 

Perhaps their most striking wine is this red, a 100% Hondarrabi Beltza made with grapes grown in Bakio which has a wild, rustic character from it’s time spent on the lees and a trace of astringency. Fruit-driven and peppery. An exceptional wine, best served at a cooler temperature of around 12-15c.
