Chocolate, Sweets, Biscuits
Spain has a long history with chocolate. The first European contact with chocolate came when Montezuma introduced Hernán Cortés, a Spanish conquistador, to "xocolatl". The first recorded shipment of chocolate to Europe for commercial purposes was to Sevilla in 1585. Spain today is little known as a producer of fantastic chocolate. Perhaps the best known is the thick drinking chocolate taken with churros. Almonds and honey provide the basis for much of the Spanish sweet recipes from the Tarta de Santiago of northern Spain to the sweet, turrones of the south.
